Evil Vending Machines and Pesto Pizza

2009 July 8

Here goes another long post! I wish I could get my laptop to connect at work. I wouldn’t have to make such long posts at the end of the day. Bear with me for another week and a half and I’ll be back to making multiple posts a day soon! :-)

I finally got my 2 week trial pass for New York Sports Club. I went today after work and let me tell you, I was not impressed. I like my gym ten times better. One of the things that really turned me off about NY Sports Club was the incredibly unhealthy vending machine placed right in the center of the gym.

Two of the worst places to put vending machines: Hospitals and Gyms. Way to promote a healthy lifestyle with Doritos and M&Ms. I was glad I snacked on a Luna Bar before I got there

Luna to the rescue!! On top of the stupid vending machines, the  ellipticals were old  and the workout areas just seemed dirty to me. This is a gym that charges $20 more a month than the one I go to now. Granted, this is downstate NY we’re talking about and everything is more expensive, but still. This particular gym was located in the Palisades Mall. There is another location near my parent’s house that I’m going to try on either Friday or Sunday. Maybe it will be nicer and sans unhealthy snacks. That just bugged me!  Does it bug you too?

Breakfast this morning was different

8-7breakfast

In my bowl

  • 2% Fage with Peach
  • 1/2 cup Vanilla Almond Special K (which I really need to stop eating because it is way too sugary)
  • 1/2 Banana
  • Blueberries

This wonderful breakfast kept me full until 11:30. When my stomach started rumbling, I had Part 1 of my lunch

8-7cantaloupe

Cantaloupe and Blueberry Salad and Honest Tea followed by this

8-7pb

PB & Blueberry Fruit Spread with 1/2 banana on a multi-grain Arnold Select  sandwich thin.

This afternoon flew by! I took advantage of the beautiful day and took a 15 minute walk on my lunch break. :-)

My afternoon snack consisted of Mary’s Gone crackers and Laughing Cow cheese

8-7crackers

I recommended these to my office manager because she loves everything bagels and cream cheese. She made me show her the website because she loved them so much! If you haven’t already, try these amazing crackers! I actually get seeds stuck in my teeth from them!

At the gym, I did a super cardio workout

  • 30 minutes on the elliptical
  • 5 minutes in reverse on elliptical
  • 10 minutes speed walking on a 15% incline on the treadmill

I was going to check out the weights but there were a bunch of sweaty guys standing around them so I decided to pass.

Dinner was amazing! I popped an Amy’s Pesto Pizza in the oven

8-7pizza2

This was my first time trying Amy’s Pizza. After I saw Jenna’s post about Amy’s Pizza, I had to try it!  It was the best frozen pizza I’ve ever had. I’m not exaggerating. My family loved it too!

The crust was fluffy, yet incredibly light and the pesto tasted amazing on the pizza. It was covered with organic tomatoes and broccoli, homemade pesto, and part skim mozzarella cheese.

My portion

I  also had a side salad with balsamic vinegar (not pictured)

Right now, I am enjoying a cup of blueberry tea. :-) Yum! I added a packet of Truvia to my tea. A couple of you asked me to follow up on how it is. I’m not sure how I feel about it yet. It’s definitely not as sweet as one packet of splenda. It provided a good amount of sweetness to my tea but it kind of has a salty after taste (weird ?). I’ll keep you posted!

Right now, I’m contemplating having a piece of dark chocolate.

I hope you all have an amazing night! Sorry again for the humongous post!

What is your favorite healthy frozen pizza/meal?

Edit: Check it out! One of my posts ended up on Healthy Yum. Nice!

That’s so funny, I’ve definitely done the same thing at the gym – not going into a certain corner of the weight-room because it’s been invaded by huge, steroid-filled men! Haha, glad I’m not the only one. I think I just don’t want to deal with the ogling or their sweat ;)

I agree with you on the vending machines in the hospitals and the Gyms. You would at least think they would put something substantial in there. I was at the hospital the other day with my father and was starving from not eating dinner and all i could find was chips and candy.

Vending machines are just…ugh. No words. IN A GYM? ugh.
